BRUNI ANNOUNCES SENATE BID
Former Webb County Judge, Louis H. Bruni informed his many supporters today that he is a candidate for State Senate, District 21, and that his official campaign for the office of State Senator has begun.
“I am today announcing my candidacy for State Senate, District 21,” said Judge Bruni. “As a former City Council Member, and as your former Webb County Judge, I devoted more than 12 years of my life to public service. I have the experience needed, and I am prepared to lead with the willingness it takes to make those changes necessary to the task.”
As Webb County Judge, Bruni inherited a county government beset with problems. Recognizing much needed change, Bruni, among many accomplishments while in office, brought overspending to a halt; submitted four balanced budgets during his tenure; fixed the county roads; brought indigent health care services under administrative and fiscal control and, as a first in the history of Laredo, founded a secondary water source on Webb County School lands. Additionally, Bruni initiated steps for the removal of railroad crossings from within the city limits by creating the Webb County Rail District for the construction of a much needed Webb Count rail bridge. He also made comprehensive changes to the County’s indigent health care program, assembling area health care providers into a coalition for cooperative efforts in this critical area of community concern.
“As I did in County Government, I recognize the need at the State Senate level for change,” Bruni stated. “We need to change our priorities, we need to revitalize our Senate program; and we need to express our vision for the future with well measured policies that will ensure that our people are served as well as they deserve.”
As a State Senator, Bruni will place added emphasis to the areas of property tax relief; education; the safeguarding of the environment; healthcare; and prison/jail reform.
“I think these are areas that concern all of us but are areas where not enough has been done,” stated Bruni.” “As a State Senator, one cannot pretend to share in our values and concerns while the legislative effort says otherwise. As your State Senator, I will show you proof of my commitment to our shared values.”
